Running status FAQs
How do I check the live running status of a train?
Enter the 5-digit train number, choose the date the train left its origin station, and tap Check running status. You get the train's current position, its delay, the next stop and a station-by-station timeline.
Which date should I pick for an overnight train?
Pick the date the train started from its origin station, not the date you are boarding. A train that left Howrah yesterday evening and reaches you this morning is tracked under yesterday's date.
How far back can I check running status?
Live status is available for today and the previous five days (Indian Standard Time). For older journeys, the railways no longer serve the running record.
How accurate and how fresh is the delay information?
Positions come from the Indian Railways NTES feed and are updated as the train crosses stations and signals. Between stations the feed can lag by several minutes, so treat the delay as the latest reported figure, not a guarantee. The page shows when the railways last updated it.
What do the delay colours mean?
Green means on time or up to 5 minutes late (or early). Amber means 6–29 minutes late. Red means 30 minutes or more. They are only a quick visual cue — the exact minutes are always shown.
Why does a train show “Yet to start”?
The train hasn't left its origin station on that date yet. Check back closer to the scheduled departure, or pick another date if the train started earlier.
Why can't I find my train?
Make sure the number is exactly 5 digits and the train actually runs on the day it starts from its origin. Many trains are weekly or tri-weekly, so a date on which it doesn't run has no live record.
