Fare lookup FAQs
How do I find the fare for a train?
Enter the 5-digit train number, choose your boarding and destination stations, pick the journey date, class and quota, then tap Look up fare. You get the total fare and an itemised breakup: base fare, reservation, superfast, catering, dynamic fare and GST where they apply.
What is included in the total fare?
The total is the amount collectible at booking. It adds the base fare (set by distance and class) to the reservation charge, any superfast charge, catering charge where the train serves meals, any dynamic-fare component and GST. Components that don't apply to your train or class show no line.
Why does the fare change with the quota?
Each quota is priced under its own rules. Tatkal and Premium Tatkal add charges on top of the base fare, and Premium Tatkal uses dynamic pricing. General, Ladies, Senior Citizen and Lower Berth are priced like ordinary bookings, though concessions can apply to eligible passengers when you book.
What does dynamic fare mean?
On trains with flexi or dynamic pricing the fare rises as seats fill up, so the same journey can cost more on a later booking. The lookup shows the dynamic component the railways return for the date you chose.
Which class codes can I use?
Fares are available for 1A, 2A, 3A, 3E, CC, EC, EA, FC, SL, 2S, VS, CH, HS, VC and VA. A train only has fares for the classes it actually runs, so pick a class from that train's list. The reference table on this page spells out every code.
Why can't I see a fare for my date?
Fares follow each train's advance reservation period and its running days. For a date the train doesn't run, or a date that isn't open for booking yet, the railways return no fare and the tool says so rather than guessing.
Is this the final price I will pay?
It is what the railways return for the selected train, class and quota. Dynamic pricing, GST, catering and any concession can change before you pay, so treat it as a close estimate and confirm the total when you book. Payment gateway fees are not included.
Can I book a ticket here?
No. RailAI shows fares so you can compare and plan; tickets are booked on IRCTC or the Indian Railways apps. RailAI is not affiliated with IRCTC or Indian Railways.
